Easy-to-make, no-fuss, healthy ice cream made from just three ingredients? Yes, it’s real! I used a frozen banana, milk and cocoa powder to whip up a chocolatey treat with a soft-serve texture. There’s no added sugar or fat. And it’s ready in minutes – no special ice cream maker needed.
You can prepare half of the recipe if you only want a small portion, or double, triple or even quadruple it if you want to make a big batch. The soft, silky texture is at its best when you eat it when you make it. If you do refreeze some of it, let it defrost for around 10 minutes before serving. If you store bags of chopped bananas in the freezer, you can make this in minutes whenever the ice cream craving comes on.
This recipe is for chocolate banana flavor. You can experiment with other flavors, such as these:
Vanilla: Replace the cocoa powder with 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Peanut butter: Replace the cocoa powder with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter
Hazel nut: Replace the cocoa powder with 1 tablespoon of Nutella
Berry: Stir in chopped fresh fruit after removing from the food processor
2 very ripe bananas
2-4 tablespoons any non-dairy milk
1 tablespoon of cocoa powder
Peel two very ripe bananas and slice them into small rounds.
Place the banana slices into a small resealable bag or container and put them in the freezer until completely frozen, at least 12 hours.
Place the frozen bananas into a food processor with 2 tablespoons of milk. Process on high speed until the bananas are completely chopped up and you have a smooth, soft ice cream-like texture. Continue adding more milk 1 tablespoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
Add 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder and process again until all the ingredients are well combined. Scrape the inside of the food processor with a spatula and process again to make sure there are no dry powdery bits.
Scoop the mixture into a small bowl and enjoy.
