5 Tips For Guilt-Free Healthy Living

At some point, most parents feel guilty about taking time away from their family to devote to themselves. Therefore exhale and allow me to provide you with five tips for guilt-free healthy living!

Being a parent is one of the most rewarding jobs you will ever have. However, there are times when being a parent can become overwhelming. Work responsibilities, financial concerns, community obligations and what about your health?

Typically in the grand scheme of responsibilities your health takes the back seat.

Have you ever tried to stick to a fitness regimen and healthy eating plan but your responsibilities and guilt of being away from your family keeps you from focusing on your health? If this is you, don’t feel bad, you’re not alone!

Here are 5 simple tips that will help feel good about yourself when you take that alone time.

1. ASK FOR WHAT YOU NEED

Too often we forget to articulate what we need for ourselves. Therefore have a family meeting and explain what you need. Clearly explain your needs and tell your family how you need to be supported.

If this means you need your significant other to help more with the chores to free up healthy time for yourself, be very specific and don’t be afraid of the responses you receive.

2. MAKE YOURSELF A PRIORITY
Being a parent is a fulltime job, but you can’t take good care of your children if you don’t take good care of yourself. Therefore schedule at least 3 days per week to work out for at least 1 hour. If you need to, break your work outs into two 30 minute sessions.

3. INVITE THE FAMILY
Invite your family to help plan, shop and prepare healthy meals. Often parents prepare separate meals for different family members. This can be time consuming and expensive. Therefore discover healthy foods as a group and everyone will be happy! (Or so we can hope!)

4. FIND A SPECIAL PLACE
After a long day of taking care of your family, it is essential to unwind and breathe. Breathing and relaxation can decrease your blood pressure and relax tense muscles. Therefore create or find a special place to claim as your own. Sit for at least 10-15 minutes per day and just relax. Your body and mind will thank you.

5. LAUGH OUT LOUD
Too often as parents we take ourselves too seriously. Therefore, the next time you forget to do something on your check list, laugh at yourself and let go! Laughter is a great medicine and healing for you and your family.

Your health is important to you and your family. Therefore take these five tips and make them a daily habit. Your family and body will say thank you!
