When hunger hits after a workout and you are looking for something that is filling and healthy, these are the bites for you! You can customize them based on what you have on hand and what your preferences are. If you like dried fruit, throw that in. If you want almond butter instead of peanut butter, use that.
The protein and carbohydrate combination are perfect for after a workout to help your muscles recover. They are not messy so you can eat them on the go as well.
Peanut butter is rich in both healthy fats and protein and will help to keep you full for longer. The ground flax is optional but provides fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. If you do not eat a lot of fish, you may not be getting enough omega-3 and flax, chia seeds and walnuts are great omega-3 rich options to eat.
These store well in the fridge all week and can be frozen and defrosted for easy snacks down the road. If you like chocolate flavor better, you could use chocolate protein powder or add some cocoa powder to the mix.
- 2 cups granola
- 1/2 cup peanut butter, melted
- 3 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
- 1/3 cup vanilla protein powder
- Optional: 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
